The Hero’s Journey: A Narrative Model For the Treatment of PTSD

I developed the following chart by reworking Joseph Campbell’s monomyth, “The Hero’s Journey.” It illustrates the central issue in a combat soldier’s experience. That issue is an incomplete personal narrative. In my model the narrative or the third act of a soldier’s experience is completed by assigning meaning and purpose to the final segment of the third act of the cycle. The intention is to transform warriors into healers.
